Introducing Sharing controls: look-only links for PDFs and sites

Control downloads, copy, print, and right-click on your Bopbee projects. One-click look-only mode for client previews and consultation links.

You publish a PDF or a small site, send one link, and hope people read it, not save a copy, paste paragraphs into another doc, or hit Print. Until now, that was mostly trust and polite requests.

Sharing controls are here: a dedicated section in project settings where you decide what visitors can do on your live URL.

What you can control

In Project settings → Sharing controls (upload projects), you get five switches plus a shortcut. Each switch controls what is allowed when it is on:

Switch When enabled
Look-only mode Turns off all five switches below at once (you can turn any back on afterward)
Allow downloads Visitors can save or download files from the viewer
Allow copying text Visitors can select text and use Ctrl/Cmd+C
Allow printing Print actions stay available in the Bopbee viewer
Allow right-click menu The browser context menu is available on your page
Allow highlighting text Visitors can drag to highlight text (turns off when copy is off)

Save your changes and Bopbee redeploys your live site with the new rules. The URL stays the same.

Who this is for

  • Freelancers and agencies sharing proposals and decks for review
  • Educators distributing readings students should view online
  • Legal and finance teams sending reports for consultation (pair with password protection when needed)
  • Anyone publishing a PDF portfolio or document pack without an obvious download button

Website Viewer vs File Upload

Website Viewer projects (PDFs, Office files, images in the built-in viewer) apply all controls inside the Bopbee preview experience.

File Upload projects apply the same rules in the viewer, and add protection on simple HTML pages you uploaded after redeploy. Custom app code you run yourself is not rewritten by these switches.

Look-only is not DRM (and that is OK)

Sharing controls are comfort settings on the page. They stop casual download, copy, and print paths. A determined user can still screenshot or use developer tools.

For a stronger gate, use Access Protection (Solo plan and up): visitors must enter a password on a Bopbee login page before your site loads. Many teams use password for access and sharing controls for look-only viewing.

How to try it

  1. Open an upload project on app.bopbee.com
  2. Go to Settings → Sharing controls
  3. Click Look-only mode or adjust individual switches
  4. Save and wait for the redeploy to finish
  5. Open your live link in a private window to verify

Free on all plans

Sharing controls are included on every plan for upload projects. Password protection, custom domains, and QR codes may still depend on your plan tier.
